The Norfolk Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) met to talk about important issues for people with learning disabilities in Norfolk. Hereβs a simple summary of what happened.
What We Talked About
1οΈβ£ New Co-Chair
- Rachel Gates is the new Co-chair of the board.
- Craig Chalmers stepped down and thanked everyone for their support.
2οΈβ£ Locality Group Updates
The first Locality Group Meeting was in Norwich on 19th January 2023.
People talked about:

Transport β Buses are unreliable, taxis lack trained staff, and e-scooters can be unsafe.

Employment β People with learning disabilities need more job opportunities and support.

Housing β Finding independent housing is difficult, and waiting lists are long.
β
Day Services β Some areas have good services, but others need more evening and weekend activities.
π Next steps: These issues will be shared with the board to help make improvements.
3οΈβ£ Ethical Framework Discussion
- Curators of Change led a discussion about what “ethical” means.
- People said fairness, respect, and inclusion are important.
- The council needs to lead by example and check that organisations treat people fairly.
4οΈβ£ Other Updates
π Learning Disability Week will be 19th-26th June at The Forum, Norwich.
π’ New Learning Disability Strategy β A company called Tricordant is reviewing services for people with learning disabilities and autism.
π» Website Update β The LDPB website has been improved for better accessibility.
What Happens Next?
- The board will look into the issues raised in the Locality Groups.
- More people will be asked for their thoughts on the ‘ethical framework’ issues.
- The next meeting will be on Zoom, and anyone interested can join.
