The Norfolk Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) met to talk about important topics for people with learning disabilities in Norfolk. Here’s a simple summary of what happened.


What We Talked About

1️⃣ Locality Groups Update

πŸ“’ Lee Gibbons gave an update on the Locality Groups and the Learning Disability Board.

βœ… Updates to the Norfolk LD Partnership Website:

βœ… Guest Speaker: Neil Howard from iCaSH

  • iCaSH offers sexual health services, contraception, and screenings.

βœ… Library Services Update

  • Norfolk Libraries joined Locality Groups to explain how to get a library card and what services they offer.

2️⃣ Membership Review

πŸ“’ Lee Gibbons announced a review of board membership.
βœ… Emails will be sent to all members to confirm if they still want to be part of the board.

πŸ“Œ Action: Members must respond to the email to stay involved.


3️⃣ Reporting Involvement Fees

πŸ“’ People who receive involvement fees from the Learning Disability Partnership must tell the DWP.

βœ… How to report payments:

  • Universal Credit – Write a note in your journal explaining the payment.
  • Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) – Call the DWP or visit a Jobcentre.

πŸ“Œ Important: Your benefits should not change if you have limited capability for work.

βœ… Need help?

  • Contact the Welfare Rights Team at 01603 496623.
  • A DWP representative will attend the next Locality Group meeting to explain more.

πŸ“Œ Action: People should report any money received to avoid issues with the DWP.

🏑 Choices About Where I Live

  • No major work has started on this yet.

🩺 Being Healthy

  • LeDeR Annual Report was presented to the board.
  • Locality Groups discussed healthy eating & exercise.
  • iCaSH provided information on contraception & sexual health.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’Ό Being Independent

  • Locality Groups discussed Day Services Pathways and the Skills & Employment Pathway.
  • More employment support has been made available.

🚍 Getting Out & About

  • Bus passes can now be used before 9:30 AM (a major success!).
  • Libraries have provided information at Locality Groups.
  • Norfolk Police & Crime Commissioner will attend meetings in 2025.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘ Support for Carers

  • The website now has a “Things to Do” page.
  • Discussions were held about what happens when a carer can no longer support someone.
  • The board reviewed the All Age Carers Strategy.

πŸ“Œ Action: Continue making progress on these areas in 2025.


5️⃣ All Age Carers Strategy

πŸ“’ Sharon Brooks explained the All Age Carers Strategy for Norfolk & Waveney.

βœ… This 5-year plan aims to:

  1. Support all carers, including hidden carers.
  2. Provide better access to services & information.
  3. Recognise carers as equal partners.
  4. Work with carers to design better services.
  5. Increase peer support & respite options.
  6. Ensure all carers know what support is available.
  7. Develop a clear Carers Pathway.
