The Norfolk Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) met to talk about important issues for people with learning disabilities in Norfolk. Here’s a simple summary of what happened.


What We Talked About

1️⃣ New Co-Chair

  • Rachel Gates is the new Co-chair of the board.
  • Craig Chalmers stepped down and thanked everyone for their support.

2️⃣ Locality Group Updates

The first Locality Group Meeting was in Norwich on 19th January 2023.
People talked about:
βœ… Transport – Buses are unreliable, taxis lack trained staff, and e-scooters can be unsafe.
βœ… Employment – People with learning disabilities need more job opportunities and support.
βœ… Housing – Finding independent housing is difficult, and waiting lists are long.
βœ… Day Services – Some areas have good services, but others need more evening and weekend activities.

πŸ” Next steps: These issues will be shared with the board to help make improvements.

3️⃣ Ethical Framework Discussion

  • Curators of Change led a discussion about what “ethical” means.
  • People said fairness, respect, and inclusion are important.
  • The council needs to lead by example and check that organisations treat people fairly.

4️⃣ Other Updates

πŸ—“ Learning Disability Week will be 19th-26th June at The Forum, Norwich.
πŸ“’ New Learning Disability Strategy – A company called Tricordant is reviewing services for people with learning disabilities and autism.
πŸ’» Website Update – The LDPB website has been improved for better accessibility.


What Happens Next?

  • The board will look into the issues raised in the Locality Groups.
  • More people will be asked for their thoughts on the ‘ethical framework’ issues.
  • The next meeting will be on Zoom, and anyone interested can join.
