The Norfolk Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) met to talk about important topics for people with learning disabilities in Norfolk. Here’s a simple summary of what happened.


What We Talked About

1️⃣ Learning Disability Plan Update

πŸ“’ Amanda Johnson gave an update on the new Learning Disability Plan (previously called the Learning Disability Strategy).

βœ… May & June 2023 – Presented ideas to the LDP Board and Making It Real Board.
βœ… June & July 2023 – Locality Groups shared their thoughts.
βœ… August 2023 – A survey was launched to get more feedback.
βœ… September 7th – The survey closes.
βœ… October & November 2023 – The draft plan will be shared at Locality Group meetings.

πŸ“Œ Action: The final Learning Disability Plan will be published once everyone agrees on it.

2️⃣ Adult Safeguarding Review

πŸ” Walter Lloyd-Smith talked about the Adult Safeguarding Summit.

  • 50+ people attended, including experts and people with lived experience.
  • The review looks at cases where people have been hurt or treated badly to improve safety.

🏑 Cawston Park Update

  • One former resident is moving to his own home soon.
  • Since September 2022, there have been:
    • 7 people discharged from care.
    • 7 people admitted to care.
  • 8 patients are ready to leave, and plans are in place.

🚨 Coalition for Change is pushing for the government to improve laws and stop bad things from happening in care settings.

πŸ“Œ Action: The Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act are being changed to help people with learning disabilities.


3️⃣ My Happiness Project

😊 Thera East Anglia talked about the My Happiness Project.

  • It looks at what makes people happy and how support can be improved.
  • Training for staff and families is being developed to help people live better lives.
  • A guide called “My Guide to a Good Day” is being created.
